Different Types of Stools and What They Mean

Yes, it is true. Physicians, and you if you want to examine the poop, you leave in the commode, can tell you about your health and any types of illness you or your children may have. Now no one wants to examine what they leave in the commode but sometimes by doing that can help you to understand what is going on in your diet, liver, and intestines. Some color can be warning bells that something may seriously be wrong with you and you need to see your physician. By looking you may even save your life.

Color of poop and what it means

  • Milk chocolate color—this is the best color.
  • Black poop—this type is considered warning bells that you could be bleeding in your intestines, that it could be cancer, and you should see your physician immediately.
  • Your poop is too dark—this can suggest you have a liver problem.
  • Poop with yellow bits in it—you ate corn and are not chewing your food good enough or long enough.
  • Green poop—this can mean that your liver is producing too much bile. It can also mean that you ate green vegetables and salads a couple of days before. It may also mean that you are not digesting your food very good, which means that you may also have bits of green food stuffs in your poop. Most fruits are fully digested in your digestive system, except for watermelon and mango’s, so if fruit shows up you may have a digestive problem
  • Foggy white areas on your poop—this can suggest liver problems from the fat in the food that is not being broken down completely.
  • Bright red in your poop—this suggests undigested blood, which could come from internal hemorrhoids.
  • Dark red in your poop—this may suggest bleeding in your intestines, which would require a medical assessment quickly.

Floating or not floating

If you are vegetarian you will most likely have floating poop because vegetables produce gas that gets caught in your poop. This makes their poop lighter than water. Other floaters include junk food and big meat eaters because it contains fat. Fat is lighter than water so their poop is going to float. If you are all three then you can expect your poop to sink.

If you have diarrhea it could be caused by a virus or bacteria, your diet, or many other conditions. If you have a virus or bacteria causing this condition you need to keep drinking lots of liquids and not eating anything but dry toast. If it is not caused by your diet or a virus or bacteria, you need to see your physician to be medically evaluated.

If they are too large it can be a sign of lactose intolerance and stools that are pebble like and hard can be a sign of poor gallbladder and liver function or you may have missing digestive enzymes. If they leave a film or grease in your toilet this could be a sign of the inability to absorb the nutrients in your foods, a pancreas dysfunction, or pancreatitis.
